We stumbled upon Valladolid thanks to a recommendation from our Chichen Itza guide, and we’re so glad we did!

This “Magical Town” captivated us with its colonial architecture, vibrant culture, and laid-back atmosphere.

We chose to spend a couple of nights to soak up the ambiance fully. However, it’s also easily doable as a day trip from Playa Del Carmen.

Insider Tip: Consider breaking up your Chichen Itza trip with an overnight stay in Valladolid. It allows for a more relaxed pace and the opportunity to savor this charming town fully.

Our visit to Cenote Azul was completely unplanned, but sometimes the best adventures are!

Located a short drive from Playa Del Carmen, this cenote impressed us with its sheer size and stunning turquoise water.

We loved being able to find our own little corner to relax and take turns swimming. The abundance of colorful fish added to the magic.

It was the perfect place to cool off with our baby, Petra, taking turns splashing in the water while the other hung out with her on the rocks.

7. Cenote Elvira

For a truly unforgettable experience, gather your friends and rent out Cenote Elvira for the day! This private cenote offers the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation.

We spent an incredible day here, enjoying the refreshing water, barbecuing lunch, and simply unwinding in the tranquil jungle setting.

Petra even took a well-deserved nap after a morning of splashing and playing!
